Misc

Sister Everton really knows how to catch the moment and turn it into a beautiful picture. This is one of my favorites of Peter talking to Sisters Hill and Wassenaar.

Soule loves children and they love him. Gabriel de Witt is sitting on his lap.
Li was baptised by Elder Osmond. Li is from China and is, according to the Elders, the purest person they had ever met. Elder Osmond is teaching him how to tie a tie after his baptism.

The Sisters in Amsterdam had a washer that died while washing clothes. Elder Sladen could not fix the washer or get the water out so they got a new washer for the sisters. The old washer needed to be removed and was on the 3rd floor of the apartment which is like a multi-level town house. An empty washer is heavy but being full of water made it very heavy. Elder Salden was not sure how to get it down the 2 flights of a narrow spiral staircase. I knew Elder Schulte was strong and figured we could do it by going step by step with him on the bottom side and me on the top. We got it down half way down the first flight and Elder Schulte said "I got it". He picked it up off the stairs and set it on the floor.

Carrying the washer full of water was totally amazing. Elder Schulte is strong but is also soft spoken and humble. He was just made a senior companion, trainer and district leader in Gent, Belgium. If you go back to the early August picture with the surf board, Elder Schulte is the first one on the board.

This is one of the beautiful sunrises from our flat. Another moment captured by Sister Everton

Cars

You see nice cars once and a while here like this caddie. I think it is a caddie.

I thought this car was in the move Cars but not so. This is a Fiat Multipia. The car in the tire store was also a Fiat.

We were parked at the Eindhoven church when this Austin Martin pulled up. I think he said it was a 1964. Wire wheel and knock-off hubs (I think that is the term). I think Ed Boyles first car was one of these but I need to get him to verify.

Breda Toilet

Most of you have heard about the Breda Toilet saga. To recap, their toilet was plugged up. I tired a plumbers helper and then a wire snake with no success. This was on a Saturday morning. Saturday night I had Peter come down and help me but we were defeated again. Sunday night the sisters called and said the toilet was starting to fill up with brown goop and would over flow soon. The Saldens called the apartment manager who called the equivalent of roto-rooter. The first truck to the right arrived but could not fix it. He called in the heavy guns (truck on the left) from another city. About 10 pm they got it fixed. Sister Herring is enjoying the excitement.

After being defeated by the toilet, Peter and I put a new fender on Sister Hill's bike. Peter is very handy and loves to help. We love to have him help. Peter is wearing reading glasses Sister Everton gave him. He love them. He bought a case for them and takes them everywhere he goes.

Kortrijk phase 2

During our final trip to Kortrijk we setup a new (used) dining table for Elder Calkins and Bastiaens.

So this shows the apartment transformation. New drapes, chairs, desk and paint.

Franklin's baptism

Franklin was baptised by Bishop Roberts.  He saw our church and felt drawn to it. When he saw the sisters by the church he asked them about Jesus. Bishop Roberts served his mission in the Netherlands when I did. He married a sister missionary from the Netherlands.

This is Franklin with Sister Moses and Rich. The ward mission leader struggled to get a musical number for the baptism. When Franklin returned to the chapel after his baptism, the mission leader asked everyone to come to the front of the chapel to sing a song to Franklin. We then sang "I am a child of God". Franklin put his face in his hands and cried.

Murwin's Baptism

Murwin was baptised October 7th. He is from Suriname. He was a wonderful spirit. He has read the Book of Mormon. On the wall of the font room is a reproduction of the painting of the people being baptised by Alma in the waters of Mormon. He saw the picture and immediately identified the story.

This is Murwin and Franklin. Franklin is also from Suriname. We have had the two of them in our car. Their converstaions in the Surname language are loud and spirited. Franklin is a soccer coach for two teams comprised of disadvantaged kids. He has taught himself the gospel by reading the Bible. He is well into the Book of Mormon and finds it easier to understand. All he wants to do is serve Christ. His baptism is for October 14 but he is struggling with opposition. We will be fasting with him October 10.

Waterbus to Rotterdam

This is the waterbus bound for Rotterdam. You can park your bike in the rear of the boat. There is seating inside the cabin. We were taking the waterbus to Rotterdam for a Zone outing at the Euromast.

We stayed at the rear of the boat to enjoy the sun. We stopped at Ambacht and the sisters boarded.

There was lots of boat traffic on the river. The boats have a cabin for the captain and his family. Notice this boat has a car and pleasure boat on the back.

This is the Erasmus Bridge.

The Erasums bridge is an engineering wonder. As you enter Rotterdam, you can see the tower amoung the sky scrapers. It is as tall or taller than many of the sky scrapers.

This is a smaller bridge by Albaserdam.

This is the large bridge which you must cross to go north. The next bridge over this river is an hour east. This is also the bridge that had the draw bridge portion up one day when we were headed North. The draw bridge is located on the side of the bridge before the suspension portion.

Biesbosch

The Biesbosch is a nature preserve close to us. We bike for 20 minutes from our home and then take the ferry to the preserve. This was the last day of warm weather for the year so we were happy to be able to make our first visit to the Biesbosch.

Here we are crossing the river with our bikes. You can see a boat in front of us that is going down river.

This is an old iron draw bridge in a small 4 house town in the Biesbosch.
This picture is for Rick Dalton. There must be 1000 ducks, geese and swans on the water behind me. Hunting ducks would be a joke here. They are every where. Once we stopped with other cars for a duck and her ducklings to cross the road.

We were passed by a bike club. The Netherlands is heaven for bikes.

On the way out we passed this pasture with a beautiful cow for Sister Everton to admire.
